Recently, the VA changed the regulations regarding veterans' disability benefits for Vietnam veterans suffering from cardiac/vascular disorders. One of the key requirements for veterans compensation is a nexus, or a demonstrable connection, between the injury or disability and some kind of specific accident or incident while in service that caused the injury.
For Vietnam veterans, the VA now presumes a nexus between Agent Orange exposure and ischemic heart disorder. In the past, these soldiers had to prove that the Agent Orange actually caused the heart disease, a difficult task. Now, if you are a veteran with boots on the ground in the Vietnam conflict, the VA will presume your heart disease was caused by exposure to Agent Orange.
