Could Your Cancer Be Military Service Related?
If you are a veteran of the armed services from the Vietnam era or the Gulf War era and you have been diagnosed with cancer, you should talk to a veterans' disability attorney to discuss the possibility that your cancer is a result of exposure to chemicals or radiation during military service.
Cancer and Disability Benefits: the Military Service Connection
Vietnam war veterans are presumed by the Veterans Administration to have been in contact with Agent Orange. Radiation exposure during military service may have occurred in Hawaii or Nevada or other locations. The VA maintains a list of cancers presumed to be linked to exposure to Agent Orange or other known military service-related toxins. These cancers include the following:
- Chronic lymphocytic leukemia
- Hodgkin's disease
- Prostate cancer
- Respiratory cancer
- Soft tissue sarcoma
- B-Cell Leukemia
If your cancer is on the list, it is not necessary to demonstrate that military service was the likely cause. Family history of cancer is irrelevant.
Even if your cancer is not on the list but you are unable to work due to cancer, talk to a veterans' disability attorney to learn how we may be able to help.
