MR. PAUL GOODSON: First and foremost, to any veteran visiting my website, I want to say thank you for the service that you've given to our country. Myself, my family, and my friends, as well as everyone here, enjoys the freedoms that you have fought so hard for. And I want you to understand how much that means to me and how thankful I am for your service.
I started doing veterans benefits because I-and I will fully disclosed-never served in the military, yet I enjoy all the benefits and freedoms that our service members have earned for me. To pay back their efforts that earned and continue to earn freedoms I enjoy and fight for every day.
It is a difficult process to full of confusing steps, confusing forms, and a great deal of bureaucracy. Often veterans think, "Well, this is part of the military. They're being fair to me." That's not necessarily true, and I'd encourage any veteran to have their benefits decision reviewed by either myself or an attorney that does veterans benefits to make sure that the Veterans Administration gets it right, because often they get it wrong. I can help them eventually, hopefully get a decision that is fair and correct. And I come to this as someone with a background as a trial lawyer, so I am very accustomed to piecing a case together to prove it. If they choose to take on this fight alone, they're fighting alone against, for lack of a better term, an army of experienced professionals who probably don't have their best interests in mind. So, they should at least have a representative who does have their interests in mind.
