MR. PAUL GOODSON: My philosophy behind Social Security disability is that most of the folks claiming disability benefits are folks that worked hard all of their lives and unfortunately had an injury or a health condition that keeps them from working. They have paid in their own hard-earned money into the Social Security system for benefits that they then have to fight for for their very existence. That's the reason I Social Security disability. I realize how important these cases are for each and every disability client I have. The delays are ridiculous. If you're denying disability benefits. The reality is most folks are going to wait upwards of two years to have that incorrect decision reversed. There's very little that any representative or attorney can do to shorten that wait. And anyone that tells you otherwise is not being truthful with you. That wait is due to the fact that Social Security has thousands of other people ahead of you in the exact same situation. Hire a representative. Hire an attorney. Fight Social Security for the benefits that you are entitled to. And for those who say, "Well, I may die in the process of that happening," as sad as that may be I have had that happen to clients. However, the benefits that were due to them still get paid to their family members that they left behind. So, there's absolutely no reason to give up.
When they do or if they do change their mind about your case, they have to pay you all the way back to when you have said you were disabled. The clients still have to figure out, "What do I need to give Social Security? What do they have? And where do I even go to get my medical records?" We do all of that.
